Chocolate Oatmeal
The chocolate industry is wrought with issues concerning both human rights and sustainability. If you are able, opt for Fair Trade chocolate products. And if the price seems absurdly high, that is because Fair Trade requirements include acceptable wages for workers, so your money will be going to a good cause!

½ cup old fashioned rolled oats
Pinch of salt
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 heaping tbsp cacao powder
1 tbsp nut/seed butter of choice
2 tbsp plain yogurt
1 banana, mashed
Milk of choice
Toppings: more nut butter, sliced banana, berries, granola, honey, or maple syrup
For more textured oats:
In a small saucepan, bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Add the oats and salt. Lower the heat so that the oatmeal bubbles slightly. Let simmer until the oats have absorbed all the water
For creamier oats:
Add the water, oats, and salt to the saucepan. Bring to a boil, lower heat to a simmer, and cook until the oats have absorbed all the water.
For quicker oats:
Add the oats, water, and salt to a bowl. Microwave for 1 minute, stir, then microwave for another 1-2 minutes, until the oats have absorbed all the water.

Meanwhile, in a small bowl combine the cacao powder, nut butter, yogurt, cinnamon, and a splash of milk. When the oats are cooked, add the chocolate mixture to the saucepan. Mix well. Cook for 1 minute longer (or microwave for 30 seconds), until the mixture is warmed. Turn off the heat and add the banana. Stir well. Top with your toppings of choice. Enjoy!
